Late enough that he takes care to be quiet as he deposits his stuff in his room and heads down to Giorno's.
It's become familiar, this routine. Not something he does every night-- but often enough that knocking and waiting at Giorno's door doesn't feel too different than doing it at Jotaro and Kakyoin's.
Which is good. Because it would be a lie to say he was entirely without apprehension; that he hadn't considered backing out with some excuse about exhaustion. But-- it's like with Jotaro. There's not going to be mockery; it's not as if Giorno's going to open the door and laugh in his face. And who knows? Maybe he'll just watch Giorno do it to himself, or let him talk about it. Nothing's set in stone.]
[Giorno has deliberately distracted himself during that hour. Not because he's anxious but because he knows Polnareff is. The less worked up he is, the less Polnareff will be; he knows that, at least in theory.]
[So when he opens the door, it's with a bright smile. He's not dressed for bed, but he's dressed down all the same (for him anyway, a t-shirt and ridiculously nice jeans, which is as dressed down as he gets).]

[And he sits on the floor, settling in, legs crossed under him. This is a comfortable position; this is a position that says he's ready to stay here for at least another half-hour.]
[He bounces back a couple more steps and hauls a case down off his dresser. As far as being reassuring about masculinity goes, it's not shit, but on the plus side, it's got lots of drawers, okay. He sits down cross-legged across from Polnareff and rests his elbow on the case, chin in his hand.]
Usually I think people start with eyes. Foundation or eyes. But I sort of start where I feel like it. Whatever's going to be what I focus on most on any given day, that's what I start with, the rest is just details.
[He says it like he has any idea of what that means. He knows you can be dramatic with lips or eyes or whatever, and he's not stupid, he knows what focus means, but-- he has no idea what it means to focus on one area and let the rest be tame. But! That's what he's here to learn, or at least witness, so he nods encouragingly, like: go on.]
[Fair enough. He's honestly not anticipating Polnareff later — wasn't to start with — so he pulls out a wipe to remove what he has on. It's not much, a little mascara and a tiny amount of eyeliner, so it's gone in a few seconds, and then he goes digging for the next thing he wants. It turns out to be a tube of something. Then two. He tossesthem at Polnareff.]
Don't panic, I wouldn't put these on you. But pick one.
[The other one goes back in its little drawer, and Giorno pulls out a tiny hand mirror, small enough to fit in his palm.]
My suspicion is Jotaro might have . . . well. The quality of cosmetics here is a little suspect at the best of times. But there are lighter formulas and heavier ones. I like lighter ones because as you might have noticed, I talk a lot.
[He wrinkles his nose and slides the cap off with his thumb. It's probably not the best illustration of the procedure, because he is quite practiced at this and thus very fast, but he does what he can to slow it down a bit. It ends up perfect, because of course it does, and he presses his lips together before dropping the mirror back into his lap.]
You just follow the shape of your mouth. It's not so hard once you get used to it. Bottom lip first, then top.
[Quietly murmured, with a little grin, in response to that I talk a lot-- but then Giorno is starting, and this is honestly interesting. And when Giorno finishes, he nods in approval. He must have seen him with that lipcolor on before, but he's never really seen it before-- and it does look good, in a way that Jotaro's peach-orange hadn't.]
And it doesn't feel-- I don't know-- like it'd get on your teeth or glass or whatever?
[This time it doesn't bother him. He understands Polnareff's language a little better, he thinks — that and Fugo's arrival has left him serene, all the jagged edges of him momentarily smoothed out and filled in. He just smiles, shrugs a little.]
I like it. I like . . . well. I try different things, like I said, but bright colors are fun sometimes. Here—
[He pulls out a gold eyeliner that more or less matches. This is quick work, too, but not quite as quick; his movements are steady and concentrated. When he's done, he blinks a few times and reaches for the mascara. The end result, a few moments later, is essentially his features highlighted in gold, accented with enough black to be noticeable.]
It's not about using a lot, it's about being purposeful with it, I suppose. At least for me.
[He really isn't contributing much to this conversation, he thinks, but it's not like he knows much about it. Sports, why doesn't anyone ever talk about sports in this house? He could talk for hours about that.

Something about him being don-- yeah, no, definitely some symbolism going on there, but in the much more literal sense, gold really does just look good on him. It's just because I have practice. I don't like to do anything unless I'm good at it, so I practiced until I thought my hand was steady enough before going out with it.

Sometimes. But nail polish lasts a lot longer than lipstick or eyeliner, so it doesn't always match. Usually I just sort of stick to a similar palette, but — it's not that serious.
