[He snorts-- in derision, really, except of course it's fond derision. He can well guess why Kakyoin might think that-- but those reasons are dark, and sad, and he doesn't want to think about that. Both his friends deserve nothing less than absolute happiness, no matter what might happen at home.]
And Jotaro? Did you manage to get him to say a word to you about it, or did he bottle it all up?
[Watch out, he's beginning to gesticulate wildly.]
Back before any of this happened with Kakyoin, I was talking with Jotaro about different kinds of love. You know. Friend love and romantic love. So I was telling him that there's a difference between ti voglio bene, which is "I love you" to a friend, and ti amo, which is "I love you" to someone you're dating. So I said what I feel for Jotaro is ti voglio bene, but what he felt for Kakyoin was ti amo.
He didn't know what it meant but he just agreed with me. Like an idiot.
[Is it a Japanese thing? Maybe this is a cultural difference? After all, France and Italy are pretty much the countries of love; maybe it's just easier for the two of them to understand. Or maybe they're just way, way better adjusted than either Kakyoin or Jotaro; that, too, is a possibility.]
I don't know. It was very frustrating. And then when I told Jotaro later that I had told Kakyoin that Jotaro acts like he's in love with him, Jotaro almost had a heart attack. Because he has no sense of self-awareness or something.
They've gotten better but they also spent most of last month texting me about who is the girl on Valentine's Day.
[He reaches up and holds Polnareff's face in both of his hands.]

[He holds it out to Polnareff. His movements are, in some way, just as shy as Giorno's expression was a moment ago.]
[He beams up at Gold Experience. It's not a forced grin; that really is cool as shit. Polnareff reaches out, taking the ladybug-- and laughs as it trots around his hand, the little feet tickling his palm.]
That's amazing! How long does it last? Is it animals, or any kind of life, or only certain kinds of animals?
[He's torn between grinning at the ladybug (still trotting determinedly around his hand) and at Gold Experience and at Giorno himself.]
[Oh . . . Polnareff likes Gold Experience. Which makes sense, he did before, but this is a different Polnareff with different experiences, so he'd been a little worried . . .]
[He covers his mouth to hide his grin and watches the ladybug crawl across Polnareff's hand instead of looking at his face.]

It was actually weirdly thoughtful, in a Jotaro way, you know. So he talked me into it. And yes, she's still around, she lives in a room at the end of the hall. Her name is Jolie. She's going to learn to swim soon. Honestly I'm shocked Jotaro hasn't said anything, he talks about her a lot.

Mm, I imagine you don't know about Diavolo - how he kept his identity hidden from everyone, even his closest subordinates. He was a very paranoid man. And on some level he was correct in that everyone knowing who he was would have been very dangerous. On the other hand, I've needed people to know who I am for two reasons: one, so that they would know there had been a changeover of power, and two, because contact with me is meant to be the ultimate goal of service to Passione.
But I still don't trust too many people back home. There's you, of course, and Mista. There's Trish, who I think you've met. Her role is - you could say it's the opposite of Mista's, and yours is somewhere between the two of theirs. She's quite vocal with her opinion even on a casual level, and I find her input to be infinitely valuable because her perspective is at the same time very similar to and utterly different from mine.

[Hm. He twirls a lock of hair around his finger, trying to decide how to put this. It's not that he dislikes Fugo, really, and that's the trouble. He doesn't want to misrepresent him just because he doesn't trust him. So.]
There was a point in our journey when Bruno asked everyone who followed him, everyone in his gang, whether or not they wanted to stay with us when we took down Diavolo. He said it would be dangerous, and that if any of us wanted to stay behind he wouldn't hold it against us. But everyone went, except for Fugo.
Even before then, I didn't quite trust him. He was . . . volatile. He couldn't control his Stand. And once he left, I knew that if I was ever going to see him again, I would need to make sure he had developed strong resolve.
[He nods. It makes sense, like all of Giorno's reports do, methodical and precise. There's emotion there, but it doesn't overshadow the raw facts of the situation.]
