He's...always kept really close to me, ever since I was a kid. I think that first night we met you may have been the first time he ever actively reached for anybody's hand but mine.

My Hierophant is quiet and subtle, and he hates open spaces. So he usually stays at my side, but I guess...maybe we just think you and Jojo are as much a source of security as hiding is. That sounds like a pretty plausible reason to me.
